About

Alliance Psychological Services of New York started in 2018 as a solo private practice, and is now organized as a worker collective.

Our Values

We believe that mental health is inherently political, and that so-called "apolitical" or "neutral" mental health practice upholds the status quo. We endorse anticapitalist, anti-authoritarian values, and are part of a community of radical mental health workers who view systemic oppression as the cause of most mental health problems. We use anti-racist, LGBTQIA-affirming, and feminist models of care, and we view our work as compassionate rather than corrective. We value flexibility and seek to evolve with our clients' needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long does therapy last? Each client's needs are unique, so the amount of time we work together will depend a lot on what we are working on. Whatever your needs are, we will work with you to create a plan that meets them. When you're ready to wrap up, we will respect your wishes. Our therapists will never try to convince you to stay in therapy longer than you want to.

2. What insurance do you accept? Our therapists are all credentialed with different insurance carriers. If you will be using insurance, please confirm that we take it before your first session. If you are new to using insurance for therapy, see the "Using Insurance for Mental Health" guide at alliancecollective.coop.

3. What are your fees? We keep our fees as low as possible while also covering our expenses and providing a living wage to our members. We adjust the bottom end of our sliding scale based on our current financial situation. Historically, our clients have paid anywhere from $0 to $250 per session, and we encourage those who can pay more to do so.  We promise not to shame you when we discuss the fee, even if we are not able to meet your specific need.

4. Are you seeing clients in person? One of our members sees clients in person; the rest of us are exclusively doing telehealth.

5. What are your policies re: the No Surprises Act? The No Surprises Act offers legal protections against surprise medical bills. This law does not affect us in any significant way, as we have always been transparent about billing and quick to correct any mistakes we make in that area. However, we are in compliance with the law by providing information to clients during our intake process and making it available here, via this downloadable PDF. When we are able to see clients in person again, this info will also be posted in our office.
